Justin Gunter is a percussionist currently residing in Cleveland, OH. Originally from Albuquerque, NM, Justin completed a Bachelor of Music (’15) as well as an Artist Diploma (’18) in percussion performance from The Oberlin Conservatory of Music.

During his time as a student, Justin studied with Michael Rosen and Jamey Haddad and worked with Tom Lopez, Peter Swendsen, and Holly Handman. Gunter has explored a wide range of musical styles including Classical Orchestral repertoire, Jazz, Samba, Folk Music, and Rock. Gunter has a particular passion for contemporary music and has collaborated with composers to perform dozens of new works.

In addition to his time as a performer, Gunter has worked behind the scenes as a Program Manager and Events Coordinator to present large scale productions of classical and new music. He is an enthusiastic educator with over 10 years of teaching experience. Justin has taught group hand-drumming classes to children of all ages and in 2017 he curated and organized a series of classes throughout the Cleveland Public Library system that focused on experimental music and composition techniques. Justin has worked as a percussion coach for the Northern Ohio Youth Orchestra and offers private lessons on a range of percussion instruments to students of all ages.
