Bachelor and Master of Music in Voice Performance – Kent State University

Rachel Balko, is a professional actor, singer and Ohio native. She holds a Bachelor of Music and a Master of Music in voice performance from Kent State University. She very recently relocated to the NorthEast Ohio area, after spending several years training, auditioning and performing in New York City. During her time there, she enjoyed performing in Into the Woods at Broadway’s Town Hall, participating in developmental readings and performances of many new musical theatre pieces, performing in cabarets and showcases around the city, taking countless acting, auditioning technique, dance and voice classes, actively auditioning within the Broadway community and working as a singer server at the World Famous Ellen’s Stardust Diner in Times Square. Prior to living in NYC, she was an active member of the Northeast Ohio theatre community and was seen in productions such as Beauty & the Beast (Babette), Bonnie & Clyde (Blanche), Sweeney Todd (Johanna) and many other roles in both opera and musical theatre.

Rachel believes strongly in artistic flexibility, and has built a teaching philosophy that emphases the importance of using your instrument to perform in a wide range of styles including classical, musical theatre, pop, folk and jazz. She aims to create a safe, relaxed, inspiring and accepting space within her studio and in her relationship with her students. She is so very grateful for the opportunity to be a part of the community at ASM, and looks forward to helping to guide and nurture the development of young artists through their own careers.
