Sarah Hegenderfer is a composer whose work combines atmospheric orchestration, emotional storytelling, and vivid musical imagery. Drawing inspiration from nature, human connection, and personal transformation, her music explores themes of wonder, resilience, and the spaces between fragility and strength.
She is currently completing a Bachelor of Music in Composition at the University of Akron, studying with James Wilding and Robert Brownlow. Her music has been performed by professional ensembles including the Akron Symphony Orchestra and the Cleveland Women’s Orchestra at Severance Hall, as well as on numerous University of Akron concerts.
Recent highlights include participation in the Composers Sandbox program in New York, where she collaborated with the Grammy Award-winning ensemble Eighth Blackbird. As a performer, educator, and advocate for new music, Sarah is also the founder of the Akron New Music Society, a student-led organization dedicated to fostering collaboration between composers and performers.
