Aurora Young Artist Competition: Piano Division

Introduction
Thank you for your interest in the 2022 Aurora Young Artist Competition: Piano Division! Our mission is to showcase, recognize, and inspire the diverse talent of young pianists across Ohio. We are delighted to be a part of your musical journey and look forward to hearing your performance! Eligibility
Any piano student, 7–18 years old, who is a resident of Ohio and is currently enrolled in piano lessons. Students compete in a division based on their age as of March 1, 2022.

Application
Students will apply for the 2022 Aurora Young Artist Competition: Piano Division by submitting an online form and a digital copy (or scan) of each piece they will perform.
When completing the online form, be ready to list the title, composer, and duration of each piece, as well as the name and email for the student’s piano teacher. A digital copy of each piece can be uploaded to the online form or may be emailed to the Aurora School of Music at auroraschoolofmusic@gmail.com. All digital copies must be received by April 25, 2022. Please note, you can not change your repertoire after you submit your application. Apply at https://forms.gle/X3a6mxsWTcmaTYuYA

Location
All competition events will take place in person at the Holczer-Waroquet Concert Hall at the Aurora School of Music, located at 211 South Chillicothe Road in Aurora, Ohio. All performances must be in person and cannot take place virtually. Family and friends are welcome to attend their student’s performances!

Schedule
April 25th: deadline for applications; late applications will require an additional $25 fee.
April 25th: deadline for receipt of all digital copies of competition repertoire.
April 28th: performance times are announced and delivered via email.
April 30th: competition takes place from 8:00 AM to 2:00 PM at Aurora School of Music.

Requirements

• A minimum of two contrasting pieces from different time periods.
• A third contrasting piece is preferred but not required.
• All pieces must be original: no arrangements, transcriptions, or method books.
• All pieces must be performed from memorization.
• For Division I: Elementary, a maximum of 8 minutes of music may be performed.
• For Division II: Junior, a maximum of 12 minutes of music may be performed.
• For Division III: Senior, a maximum of 15 minutes of music may be performed.

Judging
Students will be judged by three distinguished international pianists; the names of the judges will be announced at the conclusion of the competition. Students will receive feedback from each judge. All decisions of the judges are final and not subject to repeal or revision, including withholding placement.

Awards
First, second, and third place winners in each division will be awarded a monetary prize.

Division I: Elementary (ages 7 to 10)
1st prize $300.00; 2nd price: $100.00; and 3rd Prize: $50.00

Division II: Junior (ages 11 to 14)
1st prize: $500.00; 2nd prize: $175.00; and 3rd prize: $75.00

Division III: Senior (ages 15 to 18)
Mattlin Hyde 1st prize: $1,000.00; 2nd prize: $350.00; 3rd prize: $120.00

Entry Fee
An entry fee of $75.00 is required for each student. Payments may be made by credit card, Venmo, echeck, or paper check, and can be processed after an online form has been submitted. Payments are due by April 25th at 9:00pm. Late applications will require an additional $25.00 fee. Only applications with a completed payment will be considered. Please note: for credit card payments, there is a processing fee of 4.25%.
