Helen Hu, from Guangzhou, China, began playing the piano at age six. She extends her experience as solo pianist, teacher, and collaborative pianist in many cities of China and the United States while working with various instrumentalists and singers.
Helen won the 2021 Pittsburgh Concert Society’s Major Auditions. In 2020 Hua Yi Cup Online Instrumental Competition, she won the Top Ten Performers and the Gold Medal. Her awards also include Frank Hanley Piano Competition 1st Prize and Hong Kong International Music and Arts Competition Gold Medal. In 2016, she cooperated with the University of Louisiana at Lafayette Orchestra in many concerts as solo pianist.
Helen completed the Bachelor of Art at South China University of Technology in 2012. She was invited to give Master class and an Alumnae Recital at her alma mater in December 2019. She studied with Dr. Chan Kiat Lim at University of Louisiana at Lafayette, where she received Goodwill Ambassador of Lafayette, for her master’s degree in piano performance since 2015.
Helen is currently pursuing her Doctor of Musical Arts in piano performance at West Virginia University under Dr. Peter Amstutz. She has also received the Graduate Assistantships for both her MM and DMA degrees.
Helen’s teaching experiences includes 5 years university classroom instruction and 12 years private piano lessons for students of different ages and levels.
