Max Schlenk is an emerging artist in the Northeast Ohio region. A Cleveland native, Max attended Shaker Heights High School, where he studied under professional musicians Ken Leegrand and Chris Burge. After being accepted into Oberlin Conservatory, he studied with saxophonist Gary Bartz and was a featured performer in St. Thomas with Dion Parson and at the JEN (Jazz Education Network) convention in New Orleans. After college, he spent 2022 in New York City’s jazz scene.
Recently, after moving back to Cleveland, he’s travelled to Cuba with Jackie Warren, premiered a new suite of original compositions at the Bop Stop, and worked with several groups including Apostle Jones. He currently works as a full-time freelance artist, teaching at The Music Settlement as a J@MS faculty member and as a private music instructor around the NEO area. He continues to pursue his interests as a sideman as well as a bandleader.
