Planners OK Addition at Local Music School

An expansion project proposed by the Aurora School of Music was approved April 16 by the city’s planning commission. The school is adding additional classrooms and a concert hall to accommodate its more than 800 students.

Vera Holczer, founder and director of the school, opened the business nearly 11 years ago, and it has attracted students and teachers from all over the region.

Holczer praised the city’s support of the project. “The city and its administration could not have been more supportive, helpful and efficient throughout the design and approval process,” she said.

Before construction can begin, the city will review and approve the building plans, hold a preconstruction meeting and then issue necessary permits. Holczer said the plan is to break ground in August with hopes of finishing by Thanksgiving.

“This is an extremely important project for a prominent and successful business,” said Mayor Ann Womer Benjamin. “In addition, the Aurora School of Music’s investment will be one step in redefining our vital Town Center.”
